Some months back I submitted a News feature on the prospect of a DA art book news.deviantart.com/article/34…
Whilst we are waiting for further feedback from the DA admin on this issue (I have been led to believe that we will hear something through the course of this year) I was inspired to submit a 'Tribute' to some of the really great art I have seen here on DA.
The saying goes "You can't judge a book by its cover"
One of the interpretations being - you can't judge a person by external features alone.
In line with that thought - you can't judge an artist by one piece alone either.
Here are some "covers" - so to speak - of some wonderful art from different categories. Not only are they great works, but they are also portholes into some truly wonderful galleries.
...but why don't I let you be the judge of that...
I hope you enjoy some of them as much as I did.

Taking a great photograph - part 1
Everywhere I look people are taking photographs. Nearly everyone I know has a camera of sorts. These days you can even snap away on your cellular phone. But what makes a really great photograph ? What separates an image from the pack and makes it truly remarkable ?
As astounding as technology is, I do not believe it is always the size of your camera that counts. This is not a technical journal. To be honest, I suspect I could be more in tune with current trends, but I own a very basic middle of the range SLR reflex camera. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-lens_reflex_camera Nothing special. I could seriously do with an upgrade ! So I won'
Beach of Tragedy
Long beach, Kommetjie
Cape Peninsula
29May2009
Approximately fifty-five pilot whales washed up on the shores of Kommetjie beach during the early hours of Saturday morning 29 May 2009, prompting a massive all-day rescue effort. Hundreds of locals wearing wetsuits or shorts braved high winds and rough waves to try to push them back into the sea.
Many of the whales were being beached once again as soon as they were returned to the water.
The whales, about 3m (10ft) long, are common to the waters off South Africa.

It was a sad situation, we tried to move them towards the sea, they would go and we would be a

Thanks to all for your support and comments.
Even though I do read them all,it is not always possible for me to respond to everyone individually.
These photos are still paying off dividends, both in and out of DA. What a ride it's been.
Please also support the news article on this series if you haven't done so already.

At some stage I hope to publish a book of my art, writings and photography. This series would definitely make a feature.
Thank you DA

The 1st September is traditionally known as the 1st day of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
The spring of 2008 swept in with a tide of catastrophic proportions, accompanied by a wave of storms that is said to be the worst in the Western Cape region, for over 20 years.
